The pond, at the junction of the A1018 and Boldon Lane (east side) would appear to be where the original 13th century settlement of Clevedona began.

As Cleadon, as we now know it does not sit on any rivers it would  suggest that the communities water supply came from springs and wells emerging from the limestone scarp. The pond lies in a depression that was once a well.

Early 19th century plans suggest that the pond was much larger and that it was surrounded by a cobbled dished bank. On the eastern boundary was  a complex of workers houses known as "The Cluster" giving greater credibility that this was the centre point for a farming community.

The raising of the A1018 over the years together with the demolishing of "The Cluster"diminishes this once dominating water feature.
